Warehouse management

with SAP® software

What is EWM Extended Warehouse Management?

Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) offers you flexible and automated support in the processing of all goods movements and the management of stocks in your warehouse complex. The SAP system supports the planned and efficient flow of all logistical processes within your warehouse. Thanks to the flexible, modular structure in SAP EWM, large and complex as well as small, simple warehouse structures can be mapped.

The main components of SAP EWM are warehouse management and material flow control with the SAP Material Flow System (SAP MFS). EWM is fully integrated into inventory management and delivery processing. Business transactions that you trigger in other application components lead to physical goods movements in your warehouse. You organize, control and monitor these goods movements with EWM.

Differentiation from Warehouse Management (WM)

EWM enables the mapping of complex processes and extends the functionalities of classic warehouse management (WM). These were mainly necessary due to numerous customer-specific requirements. These include, for example, efficient wave planning, the use of a warehouse management monitor, integrated material flow control and the mapping of additional logistics services.

From decentralized to centralized

EWM can be used regardless of the ERP system used. No existing SAP system is required for this. Since S / 4 HANA 1610, the previously decentralized warehouse management system of SAP has been fully integrated into the modern architecture of the fourth generation. Since then, a centrally integrated use has also been possible.

From storage location to storage place

If you manage your warehouse stocks with the Inventory Management (MM-IM) application component, you manage the stocks in terms of quantity and value in several storage locations. In contrast, EWM offers you the option of mapping your entire warehouse complex in detail down to the storage bin level in the system. This not only gives you an overview of the total quantity of a product in the warehouse, but you can always determine exactly where a certain product is currently in your warehouse complex. With EWM, you can optimize the use of all storage bins and warehouse movements and store stocks from several plants together in chaotic warehouses. With EWM you can control and optimize all processes in the warehouse.
